Research: Contact fatigue; thin film lubrication; tribology of engine and transmission components

Professor Cheng's main research thrusts in tribology are aimed at gaining basic understandings of the failure mechanisms in lubricated metallic and ceramic rolling and sliding contacts and developing analytical models to predict the failure conditions for these contacts.
