Research: Contact fatigue; thin film lubrication; tribology
of engine and transmission components
Professor Cheng's main research thrusts in tribology are aimed
at gaining basic understandings of the failure mechanisms in lubricated
metallic and ceramic rolling and sliding contacts and developing
analytical models to predict the failure conditions for these contacts.
