Genesis Technologies, an NU-approved vendor, will provide free preventative maintenance, and repair (charging cost of parts only), through their Corporate LaserCare program. In return for the service, we would order toner cartridges exclusively from them. Their prices are about 10-30% higher than the best commercial prices. Several other departments have signed annual contracts.

Here are some highlights:

4. The cartridge price is comparable to what we currently get from NU supply.

This is a good deal. Please sign on, by sending the location of the laserprinters that you would like enrolled in the program to Rick Marzec. (r-marzec@northwestern.edu) The technician from Genesis will put your printers into an inventory the next time he is on-site. Most of the printers in the public area or research lab have already been tagged with a Genesis label. If you do not see a Genesis label on your printer and you would like to join the program, please let Rick know.

If you do not want to enroll your laserprinter, that is OK, we are not committed to enroll all of them. In that case you are responsible for all maintenance and repair.

When you need a replacement toner cartridge: Get the cartridge type number from the existing cartridge in your laserprinter, or from the chart below. Get a PO requisition from the ME website: Laserprinter PO Req Fill out the form by providing the vendor name, cartridge type # from a tag Genesis, CUFS # and approved by PI. Bring the PO requisition hardcopy to Sinta to be processed. Sinta is responsible to issue and fax the PO # to Genesis. This procedure applies for getting new cartridges and the parts replacement.

When you have a problem with your laserprinter: Call Genesis Technologies Supplies and Service Department at (800) 436-1994, as indicated from the Genesis label on your printer.

Genesis will first attempt to troubleshoot your printer with you on the phone (simply to ensure a service call is really what will solve the problem). When appropriate, they will dispatch a Genesis technician out to your location for on-site service to your laser printer. Typically, a technician will arrive on-site within 4 hours (or the following morning if your call is placed in the late afternoon).

The Genesis tech may diagnose a replacement of a printer part is necessary in order to fix the printer. When this is the case, the part will be replaced (usually on the 1st visit) with approval from you only.

Please provide the technician with a Purchase Order for the part needing replacement. All labor and travel fees are considered free and non-billable if your department has been purchasing the toner cartridges from Genesis Technologies.

Genesis Technologies will need the following information when you call for service:

  • Contact person (who's printer is being serviced)
  • Genesis asset tag number
  • Phone number (of contact person)
  • Building & Floor # of printer location
  • Make & model of printer
  • Description of the problem
