SROP Science Discussion Sections, 2008
The Graduate School, Northwestern University

Return to SROP home page

All STEM SROP participants are required to attend four one-hour sessions on Monday mornings from 8:30am - 9:30am.  The dates are:  June 30, July 14, July 21, and Aug 4. During these sessions, you will be asked to join other SROP participants to critically review an important article authored by a prominent faculty scientist at Northwestern University.  Each faculty author will attend the session and will engage in the discussion with you.

You are to be guided in your review and discussion by the worksheet:
"A Dozen Guideposts To Understanding a Quantitative Research Report"
This worksheet is available either as a Word Document or a PDF file
Please fill out this worksheet in preparation for your discussion.
Fill out a worksheet for each discussion, whether you are assigned to lead the discussion or not.

You have been organized into groups of three students who will be responsible for leading the critical review.  The expectation is that, during the session, all of the SROP participants (n=12) will engage in substantive discussion, however the assigned group should lead the hour long discussion session.  The assigned group of students are advised to get together and plan their discussion prior to the session.

All discussions are from 8:30 - 9:30 am in Pancoe 4-103

Questions about format and the assignment in general should be referred to: Prof. David Brown at  d-brown1 (at) northwestern.edu
