Research Areas

Research areas at Surface Mechanics Lab are related to mechanics of contact between surfaces. The main thrust is in Surface Engineering and Tribology. Some of the research is supported by major corporations through the Center for Surface Engineering and Tribology. Major research efforts are supported by NSF, AFOSR, ONR and DoE. They involve efforts in areas of:

Virtual Tribological Systems

Wear Associated with Rail-gun Development

Thermally Independent Damping Through Nano-particle and Micro-particle Utilization

Energy Enhancement Through Friction Reduction
