Project Objective :
Develop a product to be plastic injection molded in the Manufacturing Process Laboratory
Design Constraint :
* The product must fit within
the two die blanks, that is, smaller than 3.400 x 3.400 x 2.600 inches.
It also must not interfere with the mounting bolts in the corners. Keep the
die cavities at least a quarter
inch from any bolt.
* The “ideally”
designed part will result in a die cavity that allows the injected part to drop
out
once the die halves are separated
* The need for separate cores
can complicate the die design immensely and should be
avoided unless the team feels capable of dealing with this added complexity.
