Brian DeJong and
Dave Weir's "Cricket Killer" used an RC truck, with the remote
control transmitter modified so that it could be controlled by a computer.

A"cricket"
clicker attached to the truck was activated periodically to produce a sharp
acoustical signal.
The sound was detected
by a number of microphones placed around the room. The times of arrival
of the signal at the microphones were used to triangulate the location of
the truck, with an accuracy of a few cm.
The truck was steered
toward a goal location by the computer.
