Meso-machining Issues
- Subtractive meso-machining technologies expand the material base.
- Contact and sliding of a variety of materials (galling, e.g., stainless steel on stainless steel)
- Micro-milling may generate burrs and particles.
- Electro-discharge machining may leave a recast layer.
- Surface finish, although sufficient, will likely be less desirable than LIGA. Limited points of contact. Unknown friction effects.
- Sandia National Laboratory applications may require dry and non outgassing lubricants.
- Assembly: Meso-scale parts are difficult to handle and align
